Twist Helix’s impact on the North East music scene has been nothing short of phenomenal, with their championing of local musicians, artists and venues, and, of course, with their great original electro-indie tunes.
Following the release of their album, ‘Ouseburn’, the band are preparing to headline their biggest show yet and, as always, it’s set to be a night not to be missed. This is what the band had to say about the album and their upcoming show:
“Writing this album about our home, the region’s music scene and its place within our community was a huge achievement – and to get it recorded and out on a label was a dream come true. The album’s success has been bittersweet; particularly in light of the closure of the Little Buildings (to which the last track of our album is dedicated). We could never have imagined how prescient the album’s message about loss and gentrification would prove to be.”
Ouseburn was produced by Iñaki Martinez and recorded at Organic Audio in Cuenca, Spain.
“Buoyed by the album’s success, we’ve just completed a Summer Studio residency at the Sage Gateshead where we’ve been working on new material. We’ll head back out on tour this month with shows already confirmed for London, Glasgow and, of course, our anniversary headline at the Georgian Theatre in Stockton. The themes of our album are music community and culture so we picked the Georgian as it’s one of the longest continually-running music venues in the North East. It is our biggest headline to date and we are preparing a very special performance. We couldn’t think of a better way to thank all the people in Teesside that have supported us throughout the years. Our first support has been already announced and we’re really hyped to bring Edinburgh’s synthpop/punk duo, Kendama.”
It’s been a busy year for Twist Helix with much more to come: “We’ve been touring the UK and Spain, sharing stages with bands like Scouting for Girls, British Sea Power and we performed at the Take That concert at the Riverside Stadium! We’ve also been lucky enough to play some incredible venues like the Philharmonic in Liverpool and take part in music festivals including opening up a packed Georgian Theatre stage at Stockton Calling. We’ve also taken part in Live Sessions for BBC Tees and Onda Madrid, our first Amazing Radio plays and we were interviewed by the legendary Spanish Radio DJ Julio Ruiz of Disco Grande on Radio 3 which is the national radio in Spain.”
Speaking about heading to Spain, the band added: “Europe is definitely calling us. Our tour dates in Spain have always been well received and the album has had some really positive reception with press coverage, streams and physical sales coming in from across the continent. We’ll see what the future holds but we’re eager to get back out there.”
