The iconic Green Room in Stockton will play host to Australian music legend Jack Ladder on Thursday 6th July in what is certain to be a night to remember.
Born Timothy Kenneth Rogers in Sydney, Ladder has been playing to audiences in his native Australia since 2005. He has released five studio albums during his illustrious career, with 2008’s ‘Love is Gone’ shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize – and it also won the Red Bull Music Award for ‘recognition of outstanding potential’ and was selected as ‘Album of the Year’ by Who Magazine.
Following 2011’s release of ‘Hurtsville’ with backing band The Dreamlanders, Ladder was nominated in the Age EG Music Awards for multiple categories including ‘Best Male Artist’, ‘Best Song’ and ‘Best Album’. The lead single, ‘Cold Feet’, won ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Hurtsville’ was shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize.
As well as touring capitals and regional centres in Australia, Ladder has also appeared at various music festivals and performed internationally, sharing stages with John Cale, The Horrors, Bill Callahan and Okkervil River – and he has also toured with Angel Olson, Sharon Van Eaten, Father John Misty and The Killers.
Ladder’s musical style has massively evolved over the years. From the largely acoustic debut album which drew comparisons to Smog’s Bill Callahan, to his reinvention as a shadowy new-wave rocker on the sparse ‘Love is Gone’. And from his moodier style with The Dreamlanders to the synth-laden indie-pop of 2014’s ‘Playmates’ – his back catalogue is eclectic.
Ladder’s trademark is his deep, soulful baritone. His songs are full of sardonic sentimentality, tales of love and hope and lyrics with a smattering of gallows humour, using uncomplicated language.
In a live setting, Ladder commands the room with his effortless stage presence, with audiences usually treated to hilarious anecdotes in between numbers – a winning combination.
Ladder deserves more recognition outside of Australia and heads to Stockton as part of an extensive tour of the UK and Ireland.
A truly talented performer, hopefully, this tour will bring him some new UK-based fans.
