Ruth Lyon, a distinctive and authentic voice in the music industry, is bringing her unique sound to The Cluny 2 in Newcastle on Saturday 29th March.
Known for her reflective and honest songwriting, Ruth’s music weaves a narrative of self-acceptance and empowerment. With an offbeat anti-folk style that’s as soulful as it is stirring, Ruth’s live performances are nothing short of captivating. Her songs, filled with witty and raw lyrics, have been compared to the likes of Fiona Apple but remain unmistakably her own.
Ruth made her American debut at SXSW in Austin, Texas, where she performed solo and spoke on a panel. She was also part of a showcase alongside fellow disabled artists Eliza Hall and Lachi.
Ruth’s latest release, ‘Direct Debit to Vogue’, produced by the renowned John Parish (known for his work with PJ Harvey), has received praise and airplay from BBC Radio 1 and 6 Music, marking another step in her rising career.
Her impressive live performance history includes big-name festivals such as Latitude, Glastonbury, and Greenbelt, where her authentic approach to music has left a lasting impact.
Ruth is also committed to advocating for inclusivity in the music industry. She works closely with Attitude Is Everything, an organisation dedicated to improving access to music and live events for disabled people. Having suffered from juvenile rheumatoid arthritis from a young age and ongoing ill health, Ruth is passionate about ensuring that both performers and audiences with disabilities have equal access to the music scene. Her involvement with Attitude Is Everything allows her to speak out on the importance of accessibility and to help educate the industry on the challenges faced by disabled individuals.
Drawing on her personal experiences, Ruth’s music explores the complexities of the human condition, creating a deeply relatable and intimate experience for listeners. Her ability to express vulnerability and strength through song resonates with fans, providing both comfort and empowerment. Ruth Lyon is not just a performer; she is a powerful voice for change in the music industry, continually using her platform to elevate and inspire others.
