On Sunday 27th June, the Hippodrome will bring broadcaster and journalist Emma Barnett to the living rooms of audiences with a live stream evening of entertainment.
The show, which is aptly titled ‘Periods, Power and Politics’, follows Barnett’s campaign to remove the taboo and stigma surrounding the bodily process that dare not be named.
After her seemingly bold choice of announcing her menstruation live on air when presenting, Barnett has received a rush of support from women who are keen to thank her for not shying away from the natural processes that so many people experience. After the ‘incident’ and its aftermath, the journalist picked up her pen once more and wrote a new novel entitled ‘Period: It’s About Bloody Time’ which has provided comfort, hilarity and help to women across the world.
Now with this new show, it seems that Barnett shows no signs of stopping as she will continue on her quest to break the stigma in front of an online audience.
The live in conversation show will speak about her frustration with the modern-day ‘issues’ around periods and the ongoing struggles and battles women face, not only with actually having periods but also with the constant war with society on whether periods are a subject to be kept underground and for your own four walls.
Audiences will have their eyes opened to how periods impact women in ways they may not have even realised themselves. And, of course, there will be a plethora of stories and anecdotes that have been collected from women who have approached Barnett and shared their own interesting experiences with the world of periods that are guaranteed to provide both horror and hilarity.
Given the talent and skills acquired from her experience in both the presenting world and the journalism world, the show is guaranteed to keep audiences enthralled and entertained throughout the evening.
So if you’re not scared of a little blood, are willing to open your mind to a ‘modern world’, and you’re also in the mood for a few laughs, then pick up your tickets and get your technology ready for a livestream link as we talk ‘Periods, Power and Politics’.
Tickets, priced at £10.00, are available from darlingtonhippodrome.co.uk.
