Live music is set to return with a big bang over the coming months with a number of original music nights set to take place at The Halt following its re-opening on Monday 17th May.
The series, named Indiego Sessions, will take place over three separate Thursdays and will feature a variety of local talent across a range of genres – and all nights are free of charge.
Starting on the evening of Thursday 1st July, Middlesbrough-based brothers SHORE will take to the stage, showcasing their unique blend of ‘60s mod, ‘90s Britpop and modern indie. They will be supported by indie quintet Nice Guy, heralded by us at NE Volume as one of the ‘bands to see live in 2021’, who will no doubt be bringing their energetic, unique brand of rock to proceedings – and completing the first line-up will be North East based indie-rock/punk outfit, EMU.
A second night of original live music will then take place on Thursday 15th July. On the bill that evening is Hartlepool hypnotic dark rock duo Oliver Sharp and James Cook, otherwise known as Giraffes. This latest gig comes amid increased recognition after their tracks were picked up by BBC Tees Introducing and Spark Sunderland in recent months. Also set to raise the roof that evening with his rock ‘n’ roll pretensions is singer-songwriter, Nic Hoy.
Rounding off the month on Thursday 29th July will be Redcar four-piece, The Shakin’ Nightmares. The band, consisting of Ryan Pilot (Vocals and Guitar), Steve Traynor (Guitar), Sam McGinley (Bass and Vocals) and Glen Hodgson (Drums), play rock ‘n’ roll for the haunted souls out there. They will be joined by Redcar-based songwriting duo WARD and Teesside singer/songwriter Jen Dixon, showcasing her gently uplifting and emotive indie sound.
Speaking of the events, co-owner of The Halt and event organiser, Lee Shore, said: “We are pleased to be hosting a fortnightly original music night at our bar in Redcar. Coming from a band background, fellow owner Peter and I realised there is not much happening to support original music in the Redcar area compared to other areas such as Middlesbrough, Stockton and Darlington. Redcar used to have a great music scene about 10-15 years ago when I was growing up and we plan on bringing a little bit of that back to support up-and-coming local bands as well as some established ones.”
