After last year’s stunning success, Jake Fest, held at The Halt in Redcar, is back for another year.
Held in the name and memory of the organisers’ son, Jake Curtis, all the proceeds go to Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice, an incredible local charity organisation that specialises in caring for children 0-5 with life-limiting or threatening conditions, including support for the parents.
Last year, between the ticket sales, a raffle with prize donations from local businesses and amazing musicians, and an auction featuring a shirt that managed to sell twice, the event raised a total of £2090, with every penny raised going to Zoë’s Place.
This year’s event is going to be on the same weekend as the first, coincidently the start of Baby Loss Awareness week, with some familiar performers and another raffle to raise as much money as possible.
The exciting acoustic-based line-up features many musicians whom last year’s attendees will be familiar with, such as Christ Don, who performs Brit-pop, Beatles and indie covers, and 20% Amnesia, a two-piece of two Micks, whose influences include their namesake Elvis Costello, R.E.M and Paul Weller, as well as Megan C Ukulele, appropriately playing the ukulele, covering everything from Green Day to The Beautiful South.
Someone a little different who’s also joining them from last year is Tom Daws, the Dimple Magician, who performs up-close table magic with everything from cards and forks to bananas and will break the music up with some mind-blowing tricks.
The line-up, however, is even bigger than last year’s, so a few fresh faces will be playing including the great Tom Hingley, former frontman of Inspiral Carpets who’s currently re-releasing some of the Inspiral Carpets’ albums, as well as a DVD/CD of live concert footage from his heyday called ‘May Contain Nuts’. He’ll be playing both originals and hits from the Inspiral Carpets as a solo acoustic act.
Joining him are other exciting musicians like Jen Dixon, a self-produced singer-songwriter (now also part of a band) and Amelia Coburn, who recently released a new EP to add to her repertoire.
With the first act on at 12am on Saturday 8th October, make sure to get down early to support both the talented local and national musicians and this great, life-changing cause.
