Popular local singer-songwriter Keiran Bowe and his amazing band headline Bobiks in Jesmond on Friday 7th July.
Born and bred in Gateshead, Keiran had the makings of a star from a very young age, with some of his inspirations including T Rex and, in particular, frontman Marc Bolan.
Since his first gigs, playing fundraisers back in 2019, Keiran has amassed a strong following in his native North East. During lockdown, he concentrated on his songwriting and did regular live streams. However, it was during the post-pandemic when things really started to happen for Keiran. His debut EP ‘Good Intentions’ was released in early 2021 with huge support from BBC Introducing and he was featured in his beloved Gateshead FC’s match day programme and also played live in-store at HMV Newcastle.
Debut single ‘Hinny’ was released later that year and Keiran signed to Strong Artist Management. ‘Hinny’ is such an important song in Keiran’s career. An emotive indie anthem, the song showcases his confidence to lay his soul bare lyrically. And at the end of 2021, Gateshead FC manager and toon legend ‘Iron Mike’ rocked up to his gig at The Schooner with some of the players as a surprise (every fan’s dream no doubt).
2022 was an even bigger year for Keiran. Attending St. James Park for the FA Cup clash against Cambridge, he was gobsmacked to hear ‘Hinny’ echoing throughout the ground. The remainder of the year saw Keiran and the lads play Stone’s Throw, Hardwick and Tramlines festivals as well as providing strong support for Andrew Cushin and Andy Bell from Ride at Pop Recs in Sunderland – they even played a headline set at Newcastle’s Castle Keep.
This year, Keiran will be joining Reverend and the Makers on their acoustic tour and the band is confirmed for the first-ever Coastella Festival in North Shields, alongside headliners The Futureheads and Mystery Jets. Other big local names playing Coastella include Liam Fender, Hector Gannett and Jango Flash.
The band’s live shows are always rousing, enjoyable affairs with a lot of crowd participation. So go and see these lads whilst they’re still playing small venues.
