The Ordinary Boys are making a welcome return, lining up a series of intimate shows ahead of a busy summer of large outdoor performances. One of these up-close gigs lands at KU in Stockton this month, giving fans a rare chance to catch the band in a smaller venue. Expect a mix of fresh material, including their latest single ‘Peer Pressure’, alongside well-loved tracks like ‘Nine2Five’ and ‘Talk Talk Talk’.
Hailing from Worthing, the trio built their sound on a blend of UK post-punk and Britpop influences – taking their name from a Morrissey track. Their debut album ‘Over The Counter Culture’ arrived in 2004, followed by a tour supporting Kaiser Chiefs. Momentum continued with 2005’s ‘Brassbound’ and the hit single ‘Boys Will Be Boys’. A third album, ‘How To Get Everything You Ever Wanted In Ten Easy Steps’, dropped in 2006, showcasing a more polished, pop-leaning direction. Its single ‘I Luv U’ marked their fourth consecutive UK Top 10 hit.
The band went on to tour internationally, sharing stages with major acts and appearing on key TV shows before parting ways in 2008. Frontman Samuel Preston later found success as a songwriter, collaborating with a wide range of chart-topping artists. The group reunited in 2015 with a self-titled release on their own label, Treat Yourself. More recently, they teamed up with Olly Murs for the festive single ‘Christmas Starts Tonight’ in late 2025, followed by ‘Peer Pressure’ in April 2026, just ahead of their first live performance in a decade in Worthing.
Support on the night comes from indie singer-songwriter Frankie Dobson, based in Bishop Auckland.
Tickets, priced at £16.00 in advance, are available at kustockton.co.uk.
