Formed in 2007 by musicians from Glasgow’s vibrant alternative scene – Sam McTrusty, Ross McNae, Barry McKenna and Craig Kneale – the band has seen changes over the years. In 2025, Twin Atlantic consists of just McTrusty and McNae, but rest assured, the band’s signature sound remains as powerful and dynamic as ever.
A hallmark of great bands is their sonic identity. Even if you’re unfamiliar with a specific song, you can often identify the band from the first few chords—and that’s definitely true of Twin Atlantic. Their sound has been described as alternative rock, sing-along power pop, or indie rock, but labels aside, it’s the emotion, grit, and anthemic energy that defines them. Think Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro, or Jimmy Eat World – but with a distinct Glaswegian edge.

By 2014, their third album ‘Great Divide’ had reached No.6 on the UK Albums Chart, showcasing a sleeker, more polished rock sound and cementing their place in the mainstream.
With ‘GLA’ in 2016 – named after Glasgow Airport – they returned to heavier, grittier tones, earning praise for its raw energy and unapologetic attitude. Never content to stand still, the band embraced electronic elements in 2020’s ‘Power’ and 2022’s ‘Transparency’, evolving their sound while staying rooted in powerful songwriting.
Fast forward to 2025, and we’re treated to ‘Meltdown’ – their latest release and perhaps one of their most ambitious yet. It proves Twin Atlantic remain creatively fearless, unafraid to experiment, and still full of surprises.
