It’s a good evening for the young and the talented tonight at Bobiks, starting with North Easterner Maius Mollis whose blend of acoustic tracks breeze into the room with the spirit that only young confidence can bring. Standing out with recent single, ‘The Tide Turned’, as well as a song so new that it remains nameless, Mollis provides sturdy support for Ruby Aeron whose own debut show far exceeds the level it has a right to be at.
Standing out with the pop/funk drive of ‘I Wanna Go Far Away’ and ‘Not Here Forever’, Aeron’s show lands somewhere in the space between upbeat funk and laid-back, good-time, jazz grooves and is driven by an excellent band ensemble including the tightest bass and lead-guitar duo you’re likely to see, ever, on a debut show. Recent single ‘Overdue’ closes a well-orchestrated, nicely rounded, 30-minute set.
The benchmark has been set high with this debut.
