Kicking off the evening in style, local punk-metalheads TV Death bring both energy and sweat to The Engine Room in a set clearly designed to keep everyone’s ears ringing for weeks. Full of identity, the TV’s blast out guitar drones with style, with new release ‘Living Dead’ standing out in a performance that drips with confidence and sets up Leeds-based Treeboy & Arc to deliver a knockout post-punk heavy blow.
Shrouded in an electro post-punk sheen, the five-piece Treeboys combine the spiky guitars of Fugazi and Gang of Four with the menace of Interpol in a set that is as intensely performed as it is musical.
Standouts ‘False Objects’ as well as the double-hitter of ‘Box of Frogs’ into ‘Human Centipede’ is an amazing showcase for a band who clearly play their live set as much as a performance art piece as they do to create fabulous drone-pop creations.
It was a wonderful night of intense music.
