Be prepared to experience a production like no other, as critically acclaimed choreographer, Richard Chappell, brings his extraordinary new show ‘Infinite Ways Home’ to Dance City in Newcastle this month.
Infinite Ways Home is Chappell’s most ambitious project to date as he takes audiences on a journey of exploration through rituals, raves, and the human connection in a production that will engage and enrapture a multitude of your senses.
Aiming to redefine what we see as our sense of home and community, the dance company takes us on a choreographed journey filled with beautifully elegant ballet, emotionally-charged contemporary dance and improvisation that creates the perfect moment. Combined with the pulsating sonic overflow and a feast for the eyes, you will be lost for words at what you experience.
The story itself sees the audience follow six people as they make their way on a transformative trip that highlights the human need for connection and closeness. The experience has been compacted down into 55 minutes of passion, emotion and story, as the performers’ understandings of home, companionship, self-purpose, and community are redefined and reworked.
There is an acknowledgement of how, in times of turbulence, returning to a place that feels like home can be an ongoing, restorative process that can lead to having to face our own personal fears and having to give ourselves up to the feeling of falling to allow us to find our true selves.
Bringing together elements of new and old, this production takes on a variety of inspirations including rave culture and Druidic practices to allow for a 21st-century opportunity to unite people together.
From sharing the Druidic beliefs of the deep and profound connections we can make by surrounding ourselves in natural landscapes, to taking the exhilarated, energy-fuelled rave experiences of a shared ritualistic togetherness from an awareness of our body and surroundings, this is a story built on the notion of shared experiences and the benefits of such.
The show will see Richard bring together his ensemble of exceptionally talented dancers and performers as they share this story with you.
Backdropping the performance will be a soundtrack of electronic music courtesy of award-winning experimentalist duo, Larch, and there will also be live violin performed by the critically acclaimed soloist, Enyuan Khong.
