Sometimes things aren’t what they seem and reality can stem from myths and dreams. This is something that dance company, Fertile Ground, aim to show audiences with their newest and potentially most ambitious show yet, Myths and Dreams, which arrives at Dance City in Newcastle on Thursday 14th October.
North East based dance company, Fertile Ground, are passionate about finding North East dancing talent and giving it a home where it can be nurtured, developed and have the opportunity to grow into the best version of itself. The dance company are passionate about making dance accessible to all people. And thanks to them also being a touring dance company, they are able to showcase talent found right here in the North East across the country, with the aim of one day making the North East the most desirable place to be for dancers and dance enthusiasts.
With their latest show, the company are really pushing the boundaries and showing just how dedicated to their cause they are as they showcase a triple bill of talent by bringing dance, film and a digital showcase together for the audience’s pleasure.
Sculptor Marie Lelouche has brought her talents to the stage as she works in tandem with the dancers by creating a virtual environment filled with her personal sculptures.
Act 2 sees filmmaker Filipe Alcada and composer Oliver Coates come together with Co-Director Malgorzata Dzierzon to showcase a stunning dance film entitled Somnium. Somnium is a piece that explores the nuances of our brain during sleep as the film delves into the world of dreams, desire, memories and anxieties.
The show closes with a dance piece choreographed by Fabritia D’Intino and Clémentine Vanlerberghe. The pair use the piece to explore chirality and to allow the opportunity to reveal what has been hidden in their hypnotic number.
The production will be a mesmerising and thought-provoking piece as audiences will not only be able to gain a new level of appreciation for dance, but they will also be able to see that dance isn’t just the stereotype we first think of.
Myths and Dreams shows audiences that dance can take the form of various disciplines and work in tandem with them to produce something emotive, something that makes you think and feel, and something quite simply spectacular.
