Shut Down, developed by acclaimed dance director Charlotte Vincent with her theatre company Vincent Dance Theatre, is a brilliant dance piece which explores what it means to be a man.
Focusing on the contradictions, confusions and pressures that lie at the heart of the male experience, the piece encourages viewers to consider the struggles that men experience in their daily lives and does so with Vincent’s trademark dry humour shining through.
In a first for Vincent, who is recognised as one of the most important feminist artists in contemporary dance, the piece is her first work exclusively with male dancers, showcasing that the struggles of the human condition are a universal issue.
With outstanding choreography guaranteed, this show is certain to thrill fans of dance and may even encourage audiences to ask themselves: what, actually, is a man?
Taking place on Thursday 7th March, the show will also be preceded by a talk with the company that offers an in-depth look at the work (booking separate from the main show) and an approximately 15-minute-long discussion immediately after the performance which the audience may stay and take part in if they so wish to.
The show starts at 19:30 and will last for approximately 90 minutes. Tickets are £16.50 in advance (£8.00 for students and under 18s, £13.00 for concessions) and are available from dancecity.co.uk.
