Contemporary dance artists Akeim Toussaint Buck and Crystal Zillwood will be putting on what’s certain to be a sublime performance in Newcastle this month.
The pair met while training in Leeds and bonded over their shared love of dance and connection. Their chemistry has resulted in a poetic duet where both Buck and Zillwood will be showcasing their roots and will share their journey to find unexpected interconnections.
The performance, entitled ‘Souls and Cells’, will explore the ideas of place and ancestral origins through the storytelling language of dance. Songs and ritualistic practices will also be tapped into to give the show further dimensions and evoke a deep connection with the audience.
The pair will use their bodies to explore timeless and universal themes understood by all – no matter our differences in language, culture or personal identity. Because, even though we are all different, we still have more in common than we might first think. As, on the surface, it might be difficult to see what similarities Jamaican-born Buck and Zillwood’s English backgrounds have to one another.
Tickets, priced from £12.50 in advance, are available at dancecity.co.uk.
