This has been tearing us up for months now, but unfortunately, and reluctantly, we’ve decided to put the venue up for sale.
When we first opened our doors, our mission was simple: to give young, up-and-coming artists a home, a stage, and a chance. And we can say with absolute pride that we’ve done just that. So many musicians played their first ever gig right here, under our roof, and our biggest hope now is that whoever takes over will continue to support young artists from across the North East and beyond.
Of course, it hasn’t just been emerging talent. We’ve had the honour of welcoming artists like The Lottery Winners (with their two #1 albums), Paul Smith from Maximo Park, Beans on Toast, Tom Hingley (Inspiral Carpets), and so many other incredible musicians to our little venue in the heart of our hometown. When we look back at what we’ve achieved over the last five or six years, we can’t help but feel proud.
We’ve weathered storms we never saw coming – covid, personal health battles, the financial crisis – and through it all, we kept going. We’ve continued to host at least three original gigs every single week, something no other venue on Teesside is doing right now, as far as we know.
The reason for the sale is, ultimately, due to my (co-owner Lee’s) health struggles. I’ve been unwell for around 3 years now, and for most of that time, I’ve been unable to visit the venue. Instead, I’ve been working hard in the background, organising and promoting gigs. But I, quite honestly, can’t carry on.
To everyone who has ever stepped through our doors over these past years, including our incredible staff, past and present, and every single solo artist and band who has filled our little space with music, thank you!
And don’t worry – the doors will stay open, and we’ll continue to host gigs, until we find the right new owner. This does not affect any gigs that have already been announced.
As for the sale, the venue is now on the market for offers over £17k. If you’d like to know more, please get in touch with myself (Lee) or Adam at nevolumebar@gmail.com.
