Liverpool’s The Zutons come to KU Stockton in February as part of an extensive tour in support of their latest album, ‘The Big Decider’, recorded at Abbey Road and produced by Nile Rodgers.
Perhaps best known for their track ‘Valerie’ (famously covered by Amy Winehouse), some may be surprised to learn this is just the fourth album from the popular scousers after a lengthy hiatus from 2009 to 2016. However, with three of the original five members still on tour, this unique opportunity to see the band in an intimate friendly setting promises to be so much more than a mere nostalgia trip.
Formed in 2001, the ‘Creeping On The Dance’ tour marks nearly twenty years since the release of the band’s seminal debut album’ Who Killed… The Zutons’, and this far into their career, it’s unsurprising to know the band have previously performed at the likes of Fuji Rock as well as all the mainstream UK festivals, Jools Holland’s Hootenanny, Soccer AM, supported The Killers on a North American tour as well as being nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2004 and British Breakthrough Act at the 2005 BRIT Awards. The band’s second album, ‘Tired of Hanging Around’, reached number two in the UK album chart in 2006.
The break in 2009 afforded the individual Zutons a chance to explore other musical ventures (most notably bassist Russell Pritchard who joined Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and Saxophonist Abi Harding who joined Ian Broudie’s touring band) before reforming for a one-off charity show in 2016 followed by a fifteenth-anniversary reunion tour in 2018. New album, ‘The Big Decider ‘, due for release in April this year, promises more of the band’s upbeat psychedelic indie for fans of Talking Heads, Devo, Sly & the Family Stone, Dexys Midnight Runners, Sublime and Madness.
Special guests on the night are still to be confirmed.
Tickets, priced at £25.00 in advance, are available from fatsoma.
